CIUU Year of the Rabbit Poster Competition

7th Feb 2023

The P1 to P5 children are learning Mandarin in school. The children took part in an art competition which was organised by Dr Yan Liu, Director of Confucius Institute at Ulster University. It was the CIUU Year of the Rabbit Poster Competition. This year they received over 5,500 entries and Cassie Mc Grath achieving a Highly Commended Award which was hugely impressive.

Cassie, Mrs Molloy and her mum and dad received an invitation to South West College Confucius Hub Gala Event to celebrate Chinese New Year on Thursday 26 January 2023. This was to enable SWC Confucius Hub to acknowledge Cassie’s achievement in the Poster Competition. They were treated to a delicious Chinese meal followed by music, song and dance performed by the Mandarin teachers.

The Confucius Institute for Northern Ireland at Ulster University invited Cassie and her mum to a Chinese New Year celebration event on 3rd February in Parliament Buildings in Belfast.

As well as enjoying a host of musical performances and hearing speeches from a range of valued and distinguished partners and friends on the day, Cassie’s own personal achievement was recognised, as one of their Highly Commended entries in the Key Stage 1 category of the Year of the Rabbit Poster Competition. Cassie’s prizes included a reproduction of her poster, a cuddly toy and Waterson’s vouchers for her and for the school.

Well done Cassie!
